In the second part of this two-part series, W. Curtis Preston (the author of Using SANs and NAS and Unix Backup & Recovery), will build upon the foundations built in Backup School Part I. Where Part I covered how not to design backup systems, this part covers how to design them correctly.

Learn about:

  • How to properly size your backup server, tape library, etc.
  • When and how to use disk with your backup system
  • Configuration examples for NetBackup, NetWorker and TSM
  • When to use LAN-based, LAN-free, and Server-free backups -- as well as other advanced backup techiques

This session assumes you know the basics of backup, such as terminology and vendors' products and that you have a backup plan in place and know how to backup a database.
