Engineering & Architecture: Tiered Storage Options
sponsored by Storage Decisions
ABSTRACT:
This session focuses on the practical application of tiered storage concepts. We will discuss the case for tiered storage and two common methods of implementing the concept.
In this session, you'll learn about the benefits of tiered storage, as well as some common myths, misconceptions and vendor misdirection that may hamper a clear understanding of tiered storage concepts and goals. We'll evaluate the two practical methods of implementing tiers: on a combination of high- and low-end storage devices, or with multiple tiers on a single storage device. To get the most out of this session, you should have a good understanding of basic storage concepts (SAN vs. NAS, FC vs. IP, block vs. file) and networking technologies (Ethernet vs. IP). Knowledge of SAN design (typical topologies) and common SAN devices, along with an understanding of the benefits of centralized storage, will also improve your experience. This session is intended for those involved in practical storage design, management and administration.(THIS RESOURCE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.)
