Overcoming the Weaknesses of Server-Side Flash

Cover

Flash-based storage devices have become the first option when companies are trying to address storage performance issues. There’s just one problem, shared solid state devices often expose the performance limitations of the storage network and of the shared storage system itself.  This has led to the rise of server-side flash storage solutions.  But the lack of integration between the server-based PCIe flash, caching software and storage network adapter, have made the acceleration stack very complicated.

This paper examines server-based caching approaches, such as the QLogic FabricCache 10000 Series Adapter, and how it can reduce cost and complexity, and support clustered applications, without disrupting or requiring any changes to the existing infrastructure.
